PERMANENT EXHIBITION OF ITRI MUSEUM OF HISTORY

Driving: Engine of the Century - Automobile Industry

The internal combustion engine, comprising thousands of components, serves as the cornerstone of a vehicle's functionality. However, Taiwan had long lacked its own locally designed technology in this field. In 1989, ITRI collaborated with major automakers to introduce the "Shared Engine" program, which established engine technology on a shared system and jointly enhanced the core capabilities of component manufacturers. This marked a pivotal moment for the industry in the face of global competition. Leveraging its mastery of core technology, ITRI has successfully guided all industry players through the challenges of the WTO market and the energy crisis, driving people towards a future filled with hope.
