Confronted with fierce technological competition and a rapidly evolving global landscape, Taiwan, which heavily relies on exports, must continuously find ways to distinguish itself in the world's turbulent marketplace, given its limited natural resources and small domestic market. In the early 1980s, ITRI recognized that Taiwan needed to control and independently develop key materials and established the field of materials science and technology to achieve high-tech development. By integrating chemical engineering technology and starting from seemingly insignificant molecules of matter, ITRI began a transformative process, converting basic raw materials into the key materials that enhance product value and provide the energy that supports Taiwan's industry.
