Burgeoning: The Guardian of Taiwan - Semiconductor Industry

In the early 1970s, Taiwan faced political and economic instability from its withdrawal from the UN and the oil crisis. There was an urgent need for Taiwan to upgrade its labor-intensive economic structure and move towards a technology-intensive one. ITRI ignited the flame of innovation through technology transfers, establishing spin-off companies such as UMC and TSMC. Today, Taiwan has become the cornerstone of the global semiconductor supply chain, thanks to the semiconductor industry chain facilitated by ITRI. Just like how the tiny ICs make a big impact on the world, ITRI, with its research and development advances in forward-looking technologies, has closely collaborated with private enterprises to create an impressive trillion NT dollar production value, shaping the future through close partnerships.
